Kino and Juana
Have you ever owned something precious but so many people wanted it? Well in the book “The Pearl”, by John Steinbeck, the two main characters, Kino and Juana, had their lives changed by a pearl Kino found which was called “The Pearl of the World”. As Kino and Juana had their life changed they also lost someone important. Kino and Juana have been changed so much that their lives had been destroyed.



Even though Juana and Kino’s lives were shattered in to pieces, in the beginning of “The Pearl” they were a nice, calm couple with a little boy, Coyotito. Juana’s eyes were dark and she was beautiful to Kino. Kino was a big, muscular man. He had a black mustache and he had black hair. When the scorpion came, that’s when Kino was frantic for money because the baby got stung. What is surprising is that Juana was still calm when the baby got stung. Over time Kino got really mad because the doctor said, “I’m a doctor not a veterinary” on page 11. You can see how Kino is starting to change from being nice to angry. After a little while when Juana and Kino owned the pearl, Juana thinks the pearl will destroy them. Now she has been changing from being calm to being worried.





So now Juana and Kino have changed a lot so far, but their lives are just going to get worst. Juana is getting so desperate she is fighting over the pearl against Kino. When Kino should have just have thrown the pearl in to the water, he was too greedy and brought the pearl back inside. Pretty soon after that a man just tried to steal the pearl, but when Kino killed him and got out of his house, it started on fire. Really if Kino and Juana wanted their life back they would have to sell the pearl. That’s when Kino and Juana decided to go to the capital and sell the pearl so their lives could be back to normal.




Now after the whole big disaster, this is when Kino and Juana have to make a big decision. Kino and Juana are both desperate and scared. Right now Kino has a scratch on his face and Juana had bruises all over her body. When they got really scared is when they saw the hunters come. He was really sad when he tried to attack the hunters, but the hunters shot the baby before he could reach them in time. This was when Kino and Juana were devastated because Coyotito died from the rifle that the hunters shot.



Tears in his eyes, Kino got the idea that the pearl was evil after the baby died, so he threw the pearl in to the water. Juana was so depressed that she didn’t even know who she was. Kino was really mad because he didn’t sell the pearl and his son died. He had made a huge mistake for not throwing the pearl in the water when Juana asked him to before all this happened. Their lives had just been crushed and they will never forget themselves again because they lost their son.
