A Prediction and a Different Chapter

Author’s note: This is a prediction and a different chapter on what’s going to happen next in Touching Spirit Bear by Ben Mikaelsen.
The book Touching Spirit Bear by Ben Mikaelsen, the main character, Cole, is a mean bully and beats up a kid, Peter, for fun. One time though Cole beats up Peter so much that Peter gets problems. After when Cole went through the jury, he had a choice to go to jail or get abandoned on an island for a year. Obviously chose the island. He thought it would be a piece of cake just living on the island for one year. That was until he got mauled by the bear. After he got mauled by the bear, he was in so much pain he was close to death.

What I believe that is going to happen is that Cole is going to die. There’s no way somebody could survive after getting mauled by a full grown bear. After Cole got mauled, he had a bone sticking out of his body! Even the seagulls were eating his flesh. Once Cole dies, I think that everybody won’t care because he was a really mean guy. If he does survive, he would probably be crippled for the rest of his life.

The reason I believe he is going to die is that he even thought to himself that he was an inch away from death on page 69. The part that really tells you that he is dying is when the author describes every little detail of the parts of where he was injured on page 68. Like this one “His shredded shirt exposed gashes with long strips of flesh missing”. Also I think that nobody is going to care because he told himself that the world wants him to die on page 9.  It really seems like this guy isn’t going to make it.

Since this seems too sad that Cole just dies and nobody cares about him, I want to make the ending a little different.

As I turned to the forest, there I saw it, the giant spirit bear. I felt anger rushing through me. “Why isn’t this bear scared of me?” I thought to myself. As I grabbed my spear and yelled my battle cry, the monster started to run away. “Don’t run away from me!” I screamed running after it.

As a storm whipped up with blasting thunder, I was sprinting through the forest after the beast. As I was running, the storm was coming closer and lightning came with pelting rain.  Finally the bear stopped moving. “I’ve got you now!” I screamed.

When I was coming closer I stopped figuring out why the monster stopped, there was a dead end cliff. Once more I raised my spear and charged forward. Right as I stabbed the hard chest, lightning made contact with me and the bear. As I screamed with pain and the bear roaring, I fell backward and blacked out, but right before I did, I saw the horrible thing finally die as it fell backwards off the cliff.

About one year later

As I was on the beach in the brisk morning, I saw the policemen’s boat coming by and I couldn’t wait to go home. I know completely that this island has changed me. I feel good for taking out the spirit bear. I was able to get all of my anger out. I’m going to go apologize to Peter for what I did. It was wrong just hurt him because I was mad. Now I’m going to get on the boat and start a new life.
