Final Piece

Letter to Casey

Author’s note: This is a letter to Casey in the poem “Casey at the Bat” to tell Casey on how he can solve his problem and I told him the cause, effect, and how the conflict was resolved.

Dear Casey,                                                                                September 28, 2011

I heard about your last game and you failed. Maybe everybody hates you but I might be able to help you. Your situation was a cause and an effect. The cause was that you were up to bat and you purposely missed the first two pitches. Also, your effect was that you struck out. So basically the way the conflict got resolved was that your team lost. I can help you though so that the crowd won’t boo at you every time you are up to bat. Your main problem was that you were too cocky because you think you are great, and you think you are going to hit a home run.

The cause was that you were up to bat and you purposely missed the two pitches to gain the crowd’s attention. The crowd went wild because they thought that you were the best player. When you purposely missed the pitch because you thought you were going to the outfield on your third pitch that is when you messed up. Maybe if you tried to hit the first pitch you would’ve been able to hit a double. When you let the second pitch go by that’s when you ruined your chance. You could’ve at least tried to bunt your second pitch. I hope next time you try to do the right thing and swing at the first two pitches.

The effect was pretty much when you struck out. You sure did have the crowd go wild, wild with madness at you! You gave a signal to the crowd telling them that you were going to nail the ball into the outfield. You purposely missed the first two pitches. Then you struck out with everybody booing at you. Your teammates were yelling at you. You coach looked like he was going to strangle you. Maybe next time they won’t do that if you don’t strike out.

The conflict was resolved by your team losing. If you could only just think about your team instead of yourself you might win the game. Your cockiness was the reason on why your team lost.

Next time try to hit the baseball every single pitch there is. If you try that the crowd will love you and your friends won’t hate you. The main lesson is not to be cocky.
