Four Out of Five
Over 50% of the people I know have read Rick Riordan’s awesome books and yet again, he has written another great book called “The Son of Neptune”. This book wasn’t the greatest book Rick Riordan has written, but this was still good. I thought the beginning was bad. Although there was a bad beginning, there were a few things that pulled me into the story. Many of good parts were the engaging prophecies. Those were definitely exciting because the prophecies were coming true. When his memory got wiped in the beginning that’s when I disliked the beginning, but eventually he got his memory back and realized he’s better than he thought. That was my favorite part. “The Son of Neptune” is really fascinating with the prophecies, how Percy was getting his knowledge back, but the beginning is horrible.
As I already mentioned, I thought the book’s prophecies were really pulling me into the story. The prophecies would always pull me into the book and want me read so much longer. One of the prophecies was “Seven half-bloods shall answer the call, to storm or fire the world must fall. An oath to keep with a final breathe, And foes bear arms to the Doors of Death.” I really liked that prophecy because It made me read into the story more. I only found the first piece to that prophecy which was the “Seven half-bloods shall answer the call.” The seven half-bloods are Percy, Hazel, Piper, Leo, Jason, Annabeth, and Frank. The other prophecy was “To the north, beyond the gods, lies the legion's crown. Falling from ice, the son of Neptune shall drown.” I didn’t really figure that one out because when Percy fell from the ice he didn’t drown. So when he didn’t drown I kept on reading because I thought something bad was going to happened to Percy. Those prophecies really pulled me into the story.
Even though the book had good prophecies, the book was getting even better when Percy was starting to get his memory back. When Percy got his memory back he was figuring out his old friends and what he did. I did like the part when Percy finds out that he killed a powerful titan named Kronos. When he told all his new friends that they all gasped and thought he was like Hercules. When he also finds out about his old friends and where he came from he found out that they were coming to his new camp. I was relived about that because if he didn’t tell everybody that his friends were coming, his new friends would’ve killed his old friends. When he got his memory back the book became more interesting.
Some might argue that what I think about the beginning is wrong, but I think it’s bad. The main problem is when Percy’s memory got wiped. He acted really helpless and dumb because he didn’t even know where he lived. Also another part is when he got to the other camp, the people were stupid because they didn’t figure out that he went to another camp. It’s pretty much impossible to live by yourself for fifteen years. If I could rate the beginning I would rate it a one out of five.
It is clear that overall this book is excellent. I would probably rate this book a four out of five because of the beginning. If you’re the type of person who can get through boring beginning then this book is for you. I’ve read all the books from the “Heroes of the Olympus” series and the “Percy Jackson series”, but I still think this book doesn’t have a good beginning. For the time being, it is safe to say that this book was tremendous except for the beginning.
