Will the pearl destroy the family?

During the night when someone tried to steal the pearl Juana said that the pearl will destroy us because everyone is greedy and they want the pearl. The doctor really wants the pearl because then he would be able to use it to go to Paris. The priest wants it because he wants money for the church. A lot of people want and probably will do anything for it. They might even kill Juana and Kino for the pearl. Like for one thing the doctor hated them but, now since Kino has the pearl, the doctor is acting like he's there friend. Another reason is that the priest is trying to find ways on how he could make them pay money to him.
