Author’s note: This
poem is a parody from “Mother to Son”, by Langston Hughes, about explaining the
same tone.
Now Claudia, you must learn this,
Always be the best because,
Life for me hasn’t been fame and glory,
I’ve took so much pain,
Since of my horrible school days,
I’ve lost and pout,
And been a giant loser,
Sometimes I even thought I was nobody,
But I didn’t give up,
I kept trying and trying and eventually,
I became somebody,
So if you feel like nobody,
Never give up,
Because there’s always hope.
Donald Zinkoff is the speaker of my parody, and the audience is Claudia. This parody relates to the story because Donald Zinkoff always lost. He always got made fun of by bullies. Now he is talking to Claudia, who is a little kid, to tell her to be awesome and not a loser like him. Finally the tone is perseverance, and the mood is sad.
