The Interesting Poems

Author's note: This is analyzing the two poems "The Big Yellow Taxi", by Joni Mitchell, and "Field Below", Regina Spektor.

In the poems  "The Big Yellow Taxi" and "Field Below", their poems have a really awesome meaning. The meaning is that you don't realize how lucky you are until you lose someone or something. Their moods and tone also are also almost the same. What's cool is that the poem "The Big Yellow Taxi" has a quote that I believe is absolutely true.  These two poems are very interesting with their meaning, moods, and tones.

To start off my piece, the meaning for "Big Yellow Taxi" is to tell that you don't know what you have until it's gone. The purpose is to tell that you don't know how lucky you are with the things that you have. You realize how lucky you are once you lose that thing. For "Field Below", the meaning is that she is longing for nature. The singer is trying to tell you that she misses the field below and a rooster crow. So she pretty much used to have a cool farm home, but now she lives in a city.

Secondly, the mood for "Big Yellow Taxi" is sad. It is sad because the character is saying that she doesn't realize how lucky she is to have a lot of things until she lost it. Also the tone is some what depressing because she says during the poem that her dad got stolen in the middle of the night and now he is gone. The mood for "Field Below" is sad and a little bitter because she misses living on a field. Also the tone for this one is depressing because she acts like she lost everything.

Finally, the music compares and contrasts with the actual poem. For comparing the music from  "Field Below" really explains sadness to you. The music is really slow and depressing so that twists in with the depressing tone. The part that contrasts with the poem is the music from "Big Yellow Taxi". It contrasts with it because the music is high energy and exciting. That doesn't bond well at all with a depressing tone. If I were to change it the music should be slow. Also if it were from a piano that might make sound a little more depressing. That is what a depressing music should sound like.

It is clear that these poems have really powerful meanings, moods, and tones. In "The Big Yellow Taxi" when the girl says you don't know what you got until it's gone, it's completely true. When I was young, I didn't like one of my video games until I lost it. Also what really was interesting about these pieces is that both of the characters miss or lost somebody. These two poems are very moving.
