Have you ever read a story that was so exciting but bad at the end? In the short story, The Hundredth Dove by Jane Yolen, the book was really great until the bad parts came. I was so excited when I was reading the short story until the ending because the ending made the great story into a bad one. This short story was awesome, but there were some bad parts.
There were some really fascinating parts in this short story. On pages 2-4 that was what really caught my attention. The man was trying to catch the bird and I wanted to know if he did or if he didn’t. That’s what made me read more. Also on page 1 it mention that the queen seemed like a bird so I was wondering if that had to do something with the story since the title was called “The Hundredth Dove”. Obviously, that wanted me to read the story more. The story was interesting because it made you to read more.
Although there were good parts in the book, there were some bad parts. I thought the ending was a little weird because apparently the dove the guy was trying to catch was actually the queen. That was what made the ending a little confusing. In fact, it was so confusing I had to read it five times until I got it. Also what made me really confused was that after he killed the bird, the king and queen didn’t have a wedding. The only problem of that situation was that the short story never gave the reader any more information. So, the author said “But there was never a wedding” on page 4.
It is clear that there were some exciting parts and some weird parts in the story. I really could tell the main lesson of the story though. The main moral was never say no to a gift. It is the lesson because on page four when the guy didn’t accept the gift, he ended up having a miserable life. That is what I think of the short story.
